Well you’re in the right direction BASIC MOUNTAINEERING COURSE (BMC) is a gateway to whole lot of possibilities in the world of mountaineering and Adventure sports,

Like the title says i m here to answer few of common queries you might have about the course,

Well who am I,

I m like one of you who set out to seek some dose of adventure to keep myself immune from constant threat of monotony of modern life,

In this quest I completed my Basic mountaineering certification from JIM & WS Pahalgam on May 2022,

Why BMC,

• The field of adventure sport and Mountaineering in India is forging ahead in speed of light, the field which was mostly limited to Western adventurers has broken the shackle to open up to literally anyone and everyone who can give what it takes,

So adventure as a career is no longer a fancy dream but a tangible reality,

• Well this one’s is a no brainer with the mighty Himalayas in our backyard its gives us ample scope for venturing into this field with a bright future
• Well if you are someone who always had a passion towards wildlife conservation or disaster management then this course is a right first step towards it
• Well incase anything above excites you then go do it just for the thrill of it trust me its gonna be a adventure of life time,

How BMC,

Well there are plenty of resources available in internet about to how to go about BMC in India,

When BMC,

Well that depends if you are serious about adventure as you re career then the earliest you can start is when you are 17 to enroll to this course in India

But honestly speaking there is no upper age limit if ve got what it takes but just to put it formally its 40,

If you are planning to enroll to this course atleast start a year before as the seats are limited and there’s a demand for the same,

Where BMC,

Honestly speaking all institutes in India are equally good training and discipline wise so there is no clear outliner to pick one over the other,

But if you ask me its definitely JIM & WS Kashmir,

Why you ask,

Well its HEAVEN ON EARTH Kashmir,

The training is majorly focused on building endurance and team work which is the key to success for any mountaineering expedition,

The trainers are mostly from High altitude warfare school(HAWS) which is the premier institute arguably in the whole world which has produced Heroes who were pivotal for India’s triumph in Kargil and Men who endure and defend our Nation in Siachin post,

We are trained along side Army personnel at Sonamarg rock area which is the best in class,

WHOM BMC,

Well if you’ve made it this far its quite safe to say you are determined to pursue this course,

But as a heads I want to share few reality check for you to help make a informed decision,

• Well this course is a serious affair as government is spending time and energy to promote this field and as a matter of fact it can be the case where your batchmate is the one who is destined to break the world record for climbing 14 peaks,
• Its demanding course physically but even more so mentally you will have days where you absolutely want to give up but glory is just a step away you need to be prepared for it
• You should be ready to give up all your comforts and should embrace the simple and minimal life style for entirety of the course
• Physical fitness is key to put it in very simple terms you should be capable of doing below,

1. 20–30 push ups in one go
2. Run effortlessly 5 km in around 25–30 minutes
3. Able to do few pull up helps but not mandatory
4. Should have active lifestyle for atleast 3 months before course and no major injuries before the course

• Should endure few physical injuries and just move on
